Introduction

International organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental international organization with a membership of 167 national standards bodies. Through its members, it brings together experts to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based, market-relevant International Standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges.

WHAT IS ISO CERTIFICATE?

  • ISO certificate is a kind of confirmation certificate by an independent organization to the effect that the entity adheres to the standards created and published by the ISO.
  • ISO is an independent, non-governmental, international body that collects experts to exchange information and create international standards that can contribute in the development of new technologies and offer solutions to major problems prevailing in the world.
  • ISO certification confirms that the business or product adheres to the prescribed guidelines and are operating responsibly in accordance with Industry standards and management procedures.

 

TYPES OF ISO CERTIFICATES

Till now ISO has issued up to 22,521 International Standards covering all industries. However, there are certain important ISO certification standards, some of which are described below: -

  • ISO 9001

ISO 9001 Sets out the criteria for quality management system and can be used by any organization, large or small regardless of its industry. This standard is based on number of principles related to quality management such as customer focus, process approach and continual improvement. This standard ensures that the customer will get quality products and services which in turn will be beneficial to the organization as a whole.

  • ISO 14001

This Standard relates to the designing and implementation of the environmental management system (EMS). The most recent version of EMS requirements was published in the year 2015 and is also known as “ISO 14001:2015”. It comprises processes, policies, and procedures that outline the guidelines as to how a business organization should deal with the environment.

  • ISO 45001

ISO 45001 is issued in the year 2018 and is goal is to reduce the occupational injuries and promote the health and safety of work force within the organization. This standard is for management system of occupational health and safety (OHS).

  • ISO 27001
  • It is related to information security. ISO 27001 is a part of set of standards developed for information security. Its full name is “ISO/IEC 27001- Information security, cybersecurity and privacy protection- Information Security management systems – Requirements”

    • ISO 22000

    It focuses Food safety management system and provides requirements an organization should meet in the food industry so that its overall performance in food safety can be improved. These standards are intended to ensure safety in the global food chain market.

    • ISO 50001

    It is an international standard that supports organizations in all sectors to use energy more efficiently through the development of an energy management system. The standard aims to help organizations to reduce their energy usage and therefore reduce their overall cost of energy usage and emission of green house gas emissions.

    • ISO 13485:2016

    It specifies requirements for a quality management system in an organization that provides medical devices and related services to meet the demands of its customers. Registration under this standard can be used for one or more stages of product life cycle, designing and development, production, storage etc. Apart from that it can also be used by suppliers or external parties which provide products, including quality management system to such organizations.

    • Check if it is accredited or not. As accreditation provides independent confirmation of competence.
