ELIGIBILITY TO OBTAIN FSSAI LICENSE OR REGISTRATION

Under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 license and registration are two completely different compliance requirements, and which one is to be obtained depends upon the turnover and other factors of the food business operators. Any business entity which is engaged in the business of manufacturing, processing, storing, transporting, sale of food products must obtain FSSAI registration.

TYPES OF LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS UNDER FSSAI

 There are three types of registrations issued under FSSAI- basic registration, state license and central license.

Basic registration is applicable for every food business operator which has an annual turnover of up to Rs. 12 Lakh. If the turnover of the entity exceeds the limit of Rs. 12 Lakh then such entity is required to obtain a state license.

If the turnover of the entity exceeds Rs, 20 Crores per annum or the food products are sold to government offices, or imported or exported or sold on an online platform then the central license is to be obtained.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR FOOD BUSINESS OPERATOR (FBO)

The following are the eligibility criteria for FSSAI License-

  • Applicant must be in food business operation be it a manufacturer, processor, distributor, and so on.
  • The applicant must have a Food business operation certificate from the competent authority.
  • The applicant must have a valid registration certificate
  • Its Annual turnover shall be in excess of Rs. 12 Lakh

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR FSSAI REGISTRATION

Documentation requirement for FSSAI registration majorly depends upon the category to which the application is made. This documentation requirement is described below-

FSSAI Basic Registration

  • Authorized person's self-attested passport-size photograph
  • Authorized person's self-attested copy of Aadhar
  • Address proof of business premises such as rent agreement, utility bills, NOC from the landlord
  • Declaration from the authorized person

 

FSSAI State And Central License

  • Self-attested passport-size photograph of directors/partners/proprietor
  • Identity proof of directors/partners/proprietor (self-attested copy of PAN and Aadhaar
  • Address proof of business premises (rent agreement/utility bill/NOC from owner)
  • Photograph of premises (9-10)
  • List of company's products on the letterhead of the company along with the seal and signature
  • List of company's machines on the letterhead of the company along with seal and signature

 

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING FSSAI REGISTRATION

  • FBOs can obtain FSSAI registration online by login to FoSCoS portal.
  • Select option of Apply for License/ Registration
  • Fill and submit the FSSAI registration form i.e. Form A (application for registration) or Form B (application for State and Central license)
  • Attach the required documents to the prescribed form.
  • FSSAI registration form can be accepted or rejected by the department within 7 days from the date of filing of application.
  • If the department is satisfied that the FBO meets all the required criteria then it will grant the registration certificate.
  • Applicant can download the certificate by visiting at FoSCoS portal.
